William Johann Schmonsees is a Senior Foreign Service Officer with more than three decades of experience in the Department of State. His career has focused on the Middle East, with positions including Deputy Chief of Mission in Muscat, Oman; Consul in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and his current position, Counselor for Economic Affairs in Jerusalem, Israel. He has served through wars in Iraq and Lebanon, government collapses in Haiti and Tunisia, and nuclear negotiations inside North Korea. Johann has received several Superior Honor Awards and holds a Master’s degree in International Business.
